Chateau La Tête Rouge

Chateau La Tete Rouge, a French phrase meaning "The Red-Headed  Castle", is aptly named for its crown of vibrant ruby-red glazed roof tiles that shimmer like jewels in the bright tropical sunlight.  Located approximately ten minutes from downtown Cruz Bay, in the luxury estate community of Point Rendezvous, La Tete Rouge overlooks St. John's resplendent south shore.  Set up on the open breezy hillside directly above Klein  Bay, this villa's sprawling verandas also overlook the gentle curves of Hart, Monte, Rendezvous and Fish Bays.  Enjoy the light airy breezes sitting out  in any of the many comfortable patio chairs or rockers.  Listen to  the rustle of the  trees while you gaze at pristine Ditlif Point peninsula,  which stretches out in your center view.  Watch the occasional small  boats float along in the eddies and swirls of the crystalline multi-hued waters off Ditlif's sandy beaches.

It is just six steps down from the villa's main entrance terrace to the pool and hot tub patio.  Hibiscus, Allamanda and Bougainvillea flowers as well as banana and palm trees surround the pool, which measures 22 X 12 -  3 feet shallow to 8 feet deep end and overlooks the southern shores.  Two contoured stone lounge seats are sculpted several inches under the water in the pool's shallow end.  Both seats face towards the warm west sun.  A cabana with a dressing room, bathroom and shower is located poolside.  There is an extended roof attached to the cabana to allow for shaded lounging out of the brilliant tropical light.

The living, dining, and kitchen areas of this inviting home are defined by seven large, graceful brick arches and a vaulted ceiling that allow the natural beauty of St. John to flow inside and fill the rooms.  Four arches open out to the roof-covered upper veranda.  It takes only the press of a switch to bring their form fitted wooden slat doors securely down into place. The remaining three archways have built-in double glass doors that open out to the shaded terrace that sits above the pool and  hot tub.  Renovated this past year, La Tete Rouge radiates style and comfort.  Its mellow yellow and cream colors are subtle and serene.  The furniture and ornamentations are crafted out of dark toned woods, wicker, rattan, and bamboo, which create a cool, quiet but very tropical feeling.  

The Covered Upper Veranda

The  well stocked kitchen includes a dishwasher and microwave and there is a washer and dryer in the connecting pantry.  The villa is equipped with Wireless DSL, a DVD player,  CD/Cassette stereo system, Cable TV/VCR and a phone with answering machine.  There is an assortment of compact discs, books and games for your entertainment.  Beach towels, bath towels and linens are all supplied, as are sand chairs, coolers and a gas grill.

 There  is an Indo-Pacific as well as a Caribbean influence to the decor, evidenced best by the magnificently dramatic jungle wall mural in the villa's entryway.  Privately commissioned for La Tete Rouge, this three sectioned, finely detailed work of art is in full view of the hexagon shaped glass and bamboo dining table. 

The Chateau sleeps eight.  There are three large bedrooms and a loft area which is accessed by a spiral staircase.  Two bedrooms contain king-sized beds  and in the third bedroom there is a queen-sized bed.  Ceiling fans hang in every room and all four sleeping areas are air conditioned.  

The cool blue-green colored Master Suite bed and bath, located on the main floor, has high ceilings and arched double glass doors that lead out to a large private sundeck.   The attached bath is quite spacious and also accommodates a walk-in shower alcove.  The shower head is cleverly positioned above a wide arched wooden door that can be fully opened outward.  This allows for private open air bathing in the warm sun and gentle tradewinds while being able to gaze out at an immense and gloriously shining sea.

The Master Bath

The loft bedroom above the living room has two twin beds with jungle motif and  roll-down  shades to provide for privacy.

There are two  separate entrances to the ample sized Lilly and Plantation bedrooms, with each room joined to its own large bathroom. The celery-green Plantation room is  accented with dark West Indies style furniture and a beautiful sleigh frame queen bed which faces double French doors that overlook the Caribbean Sea.  This very large room includes a newly constructed white tiled bath with gold marble accents in the shower. A 19" LCD flat screen tv, telephone, ceiling fan and air condition complete this lovely suite. 
                                

 The turquoise Lilly Suite is decorated in white and assorted island pastels.  This large suite, features a king-sized bed with large fan shaped wicker headboard.  A three drawer dresser, matching night stands, storage trunk with extra pillows and a comfortable chair create a special retreat.  A two drawer dressing table with bench, 19" LCD flat panel tv, with cable, VCR & DVD for your viewing and listening pleasure.  Its adjacent bathroom contains an expansive vanity set under a six foot wide mirror with Mexican tiled shower and sitting chair.

The two lower level bedrooms are accessed by a wide stone staircase which curves downward to another covered porch.     

Outdoor couches and tables provide a  cool retreat for reading or relaxing away from the activities of the upstairs spaces. 

     Shop, swim, hike, sail and dine out at world class restaurants.  Dance to resonating reggae rhythms.  Or maybe just splash in your own pool, grill up some Caribbean delicacies and lounge around with a frosty drink contemplating the knowledge that paradise still exists in this world.
